I was born to ranch
Since early childhood I have cultivated my passion for all animals. I had an insatiable appetite to read books and learn all there is to know regarding horses and dogs. I would comb our neighborhood and go door to door offering to walk people's dogs. I was hired at age 11 to pet sit and walk dogs on a regular schedule. I started riding lessons at age 8 and rode Hunter/Jumpers, and by age 11 I was training horses and dogs. For me horses and dogs go hand in hand. They are working partners and when it comes to ranch work and gathering cattle on the range, there is no better team than good dogs, horses and a stock-man that knows how to read the animals he works with.
When I met my better half "Justy' he was that stockman. I have learned so much by watching him gather semi-wild cattle with his McNab dogs and horses over 40,000 acres of rugged steep chaparral country. When it came time to add more dogs into his string, we decided we had such good dogs that we would start breeding our best dogs together. And that is how I began my McNab stockdog breeding program.
When I came to know the McNab dog I learned that they were in a league of their own. Having had many dogs, some mixed, others purebred breeds throughout my life, I had never known such an exceptional dog could even exist!
Not only were they extremely athletic, they also demonstrated an uncanny, very keen intelligence like no other dog I have ever known! I knew once I made this connection that I must conserve the McNab Stockdog and my passion become that mission.
