Dear Teri,
I think about you so often, and of course my wonderful dog reminds me of you every day. I hope your summer is going well, that you, Justy, and your dog family are doing well, and that you’re immersed in what you like to do most with your dogs, horses, art. I hope overall that your life is as smooth as can be and that it’s easier for you now than it was last fall.
I imagine that your sister must be gone now; I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to worry about and lose the physical presence of one’s sibling. On a bright note, she was prescient and exactly right about the name Wren.
I wonder how Wren’s brother, Tejon, is doing.
Norma and I are in touch, exchanging photos of our dogs and information about what’s going on with them.
I know you needed a break from emails and you must receive many, given how many people you’ve met through your McNabs. But I couldn’t resist getting in touch with you, because I’m so crazy about Wren and I thought you might like an update on her. She’s got the best disposition, she’s very sweet and affectionate, and is never unkind or grouchy . She loves dogs and certain people (after she thinks about them for a little while) and we are very bonded. We’ve had a few sessions with a trainer (Trish King) who said to be sure to pass along her compliments to you on Wren, her disposition, trainability, and beauty; she works with a lot of dogs and I don’t think her praise comes easily. She’s still a string bean, weighing about 29 pounds - I feed her three times a day still, a cup of Just Food for Dogs twice a day and organic kibble one meal a day, and other healthy treats like our hens’ eggs, organic chicken treats, vegetables, fruit, cottage cheese for snacks but she burns off the calories almost as fast as I can get them into her. She’s been a handful of a puppy as you predicted but with steady and repetitive work and exercise, she’s responding well and I can’t begin to describe to you how much I enjoy her companionship. We’ve done a fair amount of camping (various locations in the Sierra Nevada, White Mountains, Humboldt County) and we hike about 5 miles a day which keeps us both sane and happy. I thought you might like some snapshots that I took (below), just to see how she’s growing up.
Sending love and appreciation to you,
Mary Anne (and Wren)

Hello Teri,
My name is Cheyne , I got a puppy from you almost 10 years ago now. His name is Bubba and I just wanted to let you know that he’s the best friend a guy could ask for! You raise awesome pups! Anyway Thanks so much for being awesome at what you do! Here’s bubba at 1 year old and 8 years old! Hope you like them

Scout & family
Hi Teri,
Hope that you had an uneventful and enjoyable drive home and your new pups are well.
Our little Scout is wonderful!!!
Learning quickly and very fond of my shoes.
He has not been too fearful and seems mature for his 7 weeks.
The vet gave him a good bill of health. He is 8 lbs of fun and sweetness.
Here is a picture of my daughter Ellie helping me with Scout.
Thank you!

Ford & Nicole
Having known Terri and Justi for a good portion of my life, I knew
that I was in for a wonderful life long companion when picking a puppy
from Amigo and Bugs' litter last October. Ford has been nothing but a
blessing and is overflowing with a hilarious personality. He has been
extremely easy to train and at 5 months he knows sit, lay down, stay,
shake, roll over, and comes to his name immediately. I know he will
stick to my side like glue without a leash in any public setting. I
have started taking him on trail runs with me around the Central
Coast, he stays right by my side regardless of any distractions from
people, smells, birds, squirrels, dogs, etc. He already shows signs
of a good guard dog but always stands down and wags his tail when I
say a stranger is ok. I feel safe when running alone with him by my
side (even more so when he matures). In addition, loud noises from
power tools don't phase him, he loves other dogs, is friendly towards
people, is very affectionate and loving, and although he has not been
around them a lot, shows impressive instinct whenever he does come
into contact with my family's cattle. He has been the perfect fit for
my active lifestyle! I am looking forward to years of happiness with
Ford. Thank You Terri and Justi!

Elko Update
Elko and I went to herding training again today. When the other dogs' turn is over they just wander around. But as you can see, Elko stands at the fence and does not want to do anything else but get back in there with the sheep. He actually bit the fence in frustration! In the end he jumped in the water to cool off and take a drink. We will soon be starting rattlesnake avoidance training with him. Our last McNab alerted us to at least four rattlesnakes before he passed at 11 years old. The training stuck for ten years. I can't say enough good things about these guys!

We are so in love with this guy! He's fitting right in. Great trail companion - we did 15 miles today and he stayed right with me - he was upset I wouldn't do more with him!! Not a bit tired. Perfect manners. Loves frisbee. He's amazing and we can't thank you enough for our new family member.
Bella
Bella has grown into the sweetest dog! All five of our cats love her and sleep with her. Here are a couple of my favorite photos of her.
Woodrow is a Real Gem!
Happy 2020! Woodrow is wonderful! He is a real gem of a dog and we love him to pieces! He’s so friendly and has gotten a lot more confident. His new favorite activities are rooting through the snow (his nose is amazing!), napping in all the softest places (spoiled!) and going skate skiing with us - he loves to race along all the groomed trails and play with other dogs along the way. Is your year off to a good start?

Cinchie the Therapy Dog
Cinchie just passed her AKC good citizen test. Her trainer Cindy just loved her! Cinchie, out of Daley by Gus, was rehomed to an EMT who served in Iraq. Ruby has PTSD and Cinchie has been a great therapy dog for her!
Christmas Eve, 2019
Hi Teri, Hope you are well, just wanted to send a photo of Casper and Captain taken on Xmas Eve this year. Casper is 4 now and Captain 3, they love playing with the chuck-it: Casper makes incredible leaps to catch the tennis ball while Cap herds all the balls together in one pile. They love playing with other dogs, and keep us entertained. Laurie
Casper is on the left, Cap on the right (a bit smaller).

Our Ranch dog breeding 'Old Barney & Katie'
Justy,
Don’t know if you remember me or not, but this is Greg J.
We grew up in Santa Maria and car pooled together going to Cal Poly.
Your sister gave us a McNab back in 1999 (I think) right before we (Karen and I) moved to New Mexico.
Rosen was one of the most loyal, smartest dogs we can remember. He passed away about 4 or 5 years ago. Here’s a couple of pics.

Rosen was one of the most loyal, smartest dogs we can remember. He passed away about 4 or 5 years ago. Here’s a couple of pics.
Rosen did work cattle a little. We have 160 acres and at most ran 30 Angus cows along with a Registered Angus bull. Not quite your operation, but we have fun. Between Rosen and Baily (border collie) they both kept me outta trouble. I did train Rosen, along with Bailey, basic herding. It always amazed me when I wasn’t paying attention (quite often) and a calf would bolt from the pack, Bailey would herd them back. Rosen was the best pusher, and I would just let him do his thing. I saw Rosen, one time, grab the nose of a bull and that bull flung him about 10 yards. Rosen never missed a beat and that bull was headed right where I wanted him. They were both much better without my input, than with it : )
Anyways, our oldest dog (Rocky) is going blind but in good health, so Karen and I started looking for another dog. We both seem to want another McNab, for obvious reasons, and started searching the web. Well, guess who’s site showed up? Couldn’t believe my eyes!!! I’m not one to believe in external influences, but I think we have found where we are getting our next dog. If you agree.
I’ve rambled long enough. Hope to hear from you soon. Good to visit your web site and see the pictures. You haven’t changed a bit : )

Woodrow (Kona& True Blue)in Idaho, Aug.2019
Hi Teri!
I just wanted to say thank you again for breeding the best dogs ever! Woodrow is absolutely wonderful. He had his 16 week shots last week and weighs in at 28 pounds. He is attentive and very sweet natured. Curious, but not skittish. Great with our kids and other dogs. He stays close and is affectionate, but not needy. And he naturally seems to know how to be around our horses and mules. He is smart and learns commands quickly. He is so playful and just an absolute joy! We are grateful to have him in our lives and feel incredibly lucky that he is a member of our family. Words are not enough to express how happy we are with Woodrow. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve included a couple pictures - the latest is of his “squirrel” face. He is so intense and loves to give chase, but even in the heat of the chase, will waive off and come when he’s called. Such a good boy! Thank you again and I hope you are having a good summer!
Cheers,
Madeleine Turnbull

Gus(Ayla & Spud) Best dog ever! Nov.,2018
Hi
I realized I hadn't updated you about Ayla and Spud's puppy I got from y'all. I've attached a couple of pictures of Gus (Augustus Moose) below. We are doing herding and tracking currently. Hoping to get him into barnhunt soon since the other dogs are training him on squirrels.
He is super smart and very willing to do whatever needs to be done. He lives to go everywhere and do anything. Best dog I've had.

Thanksgiving 2018 - Faye (True Blue & Pixie offspring)
Hi Teri,
Hope all is well. I thought I'd send you this video of Fay. She's almost a year already! She such a funny dog she loves our mornings of fetch. She's going to miss it if it ever rains again but for now is so much fun. She brings me a tennis ball in the morning so I don't forget. If I don't respond to the green one she'll bring me a red one and so on until I give in. Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Sincerely, Lydia |

..it snows in Montana. Sunny didn’t seem to mind! ️
He continues to do SO well and fits in great with our human and dog family. He has welcomed every person, critter and situation he has met and he is adored by everyone!!
(We did see the article in our paper about the griz you sent - yikes!! Very close to home, indeed.)
Hope all is well in California! The snow is coming down hard here still.
Thanks again,

Jamie's Progress Report (Cassie & Roscoe 2018)
As you can see he’s made himself at home in our house and in our hearts. He was 25 pounds when we took him to the vet in early April. He went in yesterday for his last puppy vaccinations and he weighs almost 31 pounds, all determined rambunctious puppy. He’s lost almost all of his puppy teeth but still tries to herd us with little nips. He is a joy to have and we thank you again for allowing us to have him.

Pumpkin & Buckwheat offspring 2018
Hi Teri –
Thank you so much to you (and Pumpkin and Buckwheat) for our newest family member! We settled on the name Sunny – a nod to his beautiful golden color and his sweet, happy personality! He is truly something very special and we just love him so much already. He could not be more of a sweetheart with our daughter and he is holding his own with our older pups. He is doing well in his crate at night and loves his long romps on the ranch and cuddling in many favorite spots around the house.
Hope you enjoy these few pics and the short video...Burt said you have a private McNab group on Facebook, so I'll track you down and hope you will add me to the group.
Thanks again!!

Hello Teri,
I thought you might be interested in an update on how we are doing with our McNab puppy. Her name is Piper. She is smart as a whip. She learns everything so quickly. She loves to play endless games of fetch with us. We have regularly started hiking with her and some trail running but nothing too steep or jarring just yet. Our vet has told us to wait until she's a year old before going on long trail runs or mountain bike rides. She loves to walk with us and with our kids.
Piper has fully become a member of our family. We were surprised that she learned to be house trained in about a week after she joined our family.
I have attached a picture with our youngest daughter Ana.
Hope you are well.
Take care,
Riley

Goldsmith line puppies - full siblings to Pixie & Jet
Hi Teri,
I didn't know if you got my last e mail and pictures of Fay. I have to tell you she has been the best puppy! Other than licking my shoes (never Joes) she has been awesome. I think she's the most loved dog in the neighborhood - she's super friendly and sweet. We have children behind us and on one side of us and she'll be outside and kids call her to the fence or call me 'Fays mom' can Fay come over and play? I think they're a similar energy but it's so adorable. We're back in training and she's coming right along we practice our training on our hikes and walks and she's really sharp. I think you'd be proud of her. I got her booster the other day and shes 29 lbs. now. I saw your new puppies and what beautiful litters they are. Take care and I'll try to get some new pictures of her for you. Sincerely. Lydia

Hi Teri!
Yes, sorry I haven’t given any updates, it’s been a crazy, busy summer (even a bit more so than I expected, haha). We just finished harvest yesterday, hurray!
“Gemma” is our wonderful NcNablet! She is so awesome! Thank you so much for sharing her with us! She is a delight. Cute, smart (amazingly fast learner), affectionate. (But you already know all these things!!) We love her! I thought after talking with you about your breeding program that she would be just what we were hoping for and she totally is! Thank you again. She’s had very social summer & has delighted all. I am hoping to start some classes with her this fall and look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together. (I have so appreciated her hair coat and tight paws - while all the other dogs are needing lots of attention to get all the cheat grass seeds out of their coat & paws, she is weed free! I love it!)
I will try to do better at keeping you up to date!
Photos - she stays with me so well I most often don’t have her on leash, but had to here & taking the photos, I wish I would have taken it off before taking the pictures!
Thanks again Teri & Justy!!

Fay (Pixie & True Blue), February 2018
She weighs 14 pounds now and is pretty well house trained. She also sits on command and I'm starting to work on the down command. She's a smart little bugger. It's been snowing this morning so I let her out to romp

Elko (male out of Cassie by Gus) Herding 1/17/2017
Teri,
It is another birthday for Elko… 5 months today. He is just over 28 pounds now and his baby teeth look like they have all made room for the adult teeth.
He just got to see a few deer passing by the front door. Exciting!
He is getting big compliments at herding class after just two times (as expected). He does not stop watching when it is the other dogs turns.
We missed going last weekend as he had cracked and bloodied a nail on his back paw.
A few photos at herding, with his new bed and his friend Henry.

He is getting big compliments at herding class after just two times (as expected). He does not stop watching when it is the other dogs turns.
We missed going last weekend as he had cracked and bloodied a nail on his back paw.
A few photos at herding, with his new bed and his friend Henry.

Happy 2018!
Happy Birthday to Ellie! 1 year old
Today is Ellie's (Ayla & Spud offspring) Birthday (02/05/12017). We
just wanted to tell you how much we dearly love her and to
Thank you for producing such wonderful dogs.

Bones (by Rowley out of Zoe) is absolutely magnificent! She is a delight; silly, funny, smart, sassy, kind, and energetic, of course. She is also extremely social and loves everyone . . . well, except for a few creepy people and mean dogs. Thanks for allowing Bones to be a part of our family. 9/28/17 |
Hi Teri,
I just wanted to thank you so much for Jax, he is such a personality, both loving and clowning. He has been incredibly easy to assimilate into our family and train in obedience. He will begin his formal agility training at WAG in Elk Grove next week. NADAC style like Sharon Nelson. I have a lot of funny stories and many more pictures, but you should know we were unsure about his ears until a couple of months ago. Of course, we did not care and would make jokes daily about the flip flop state of his ears. They are now permanently up, like Cinch’s and he has the athletic build and is fast like his mother. In any event thank you so much - we all love him. Cheryl |
Up and coming Search and Rescue dog
Just a few photos of Tad (Feather/Styxx) to share - what a special guy I have! He is a clown . . . a snuggler/hugger . . . player . . . runner . . . and a great sleeper! Hate to say and jinx myself - He shoots into his crate at bedtime, sleeps 8ish hours before he wakes me to go out in the a.m. We walk around the back of the property while the sun is just beginning to peer over the trees and the fog swirls across the surface of the pond . . . after I get my walkin' coffee! Occasionally darts through the tall grass not realizing lurking on the other side is . . . THE POND! Hence the bath photo!

7/25/16 - It's been five months since we picked up our puppy. Her name is Scout (Daley and Gus) and she is a fantastic dog! She is whip smart and super fast. Thank you for producing this great dog!
|
We recently heard back from the owners of Audie, one of Feather and Styxx's girls:
"She's been fantastic and getting some serious energy as she grows. Sleeps, eats, and plays . . . what a life. I hardly had to house train her. The only accidents she had was when I missed her little whines and she looked at me as if it was my fault and peed right in front of me. I had to laugh as she certainly has character and is getting a great independent streak.
On longer walks she still gets a little scared and starts to whimper - all those smells of big creatures she doesn't know must have her mind racing. We crossed some bear tracks and she had no idea what to make of the smell.
She's a dream in the van. I think the road trip back really helped her with that. She curls up and sleeps straight away - even when I have to get supplies it's no problem, and I come back to a sleepy puppy and a wagging tail.
My friends always bring a toy of some sort when they visit, but her favorites are a stick, an old glove and a piece of rope I cut up. She loves people too. Her last puppy shots are later this week, so I can let her play with other dogs after that. Dr. Joe in Ned loves her, the vet staff were kissing her on the nose and she didn't even flinch at the shot. I had to fill them in on how awesome her heritage is.
I'm so happy to have her!

Bowie
He began with the name Bo, but since David Bowie passed away, he became Bowie. Bowie, son of Haley and Sparky, is just a wonderful being. He is so smart, affectionate - could not be cuter, and is unbelievably social -- friendly and playful with all people, children, and other dogs. He is rambunctious, but when with my 91 year old mother, he plays softly. He always chooses to play with the big dogs at puppy socials (held at Oakland Zoo.) He is a total chatterbox, making funny sounds when he is playing and barking his commands for me to play ball or to hurry up and feed him. So far, Bowie is not at all skittish, takes in all loud noises or visuals "like a guy."
Thank you for bringing this lovely little friend into my life. I don't know what I would do without Bowie herding my every step.

Annie Oakley has passed her AHBA herding trial tests!
Big news from another of our happy owners: Annie passed/qualified both of her AHBA tests on two different flocks of sheep yesterday! She was perfect on her gather, getting through the gaps and gates, crossing over the field, and penning the sheep - don't think I've ever seen her do better. The judges said how well she did and that she could have been in the HTAD trials instead of the junior ones. But we set up for success and it worked out so well! One thing I've been working on very hard with her is to get her to maintain a steady pace (she lopes fast) and to stay way out from the sheep - that's been a challenge. Part of it is that she likes to be close to me, but I also wonder if you think that's a trait of her McNabness and is it her instinct for cattle herding to get in close?
Anyway, there were a few people at the trials yesterday that remarked how pretty Annie is, how nice her conformation is, and that they liked the way she moved while herding. They wanted to know where I got her, so of course I recommended you with high praise. One woman there said she is getting a pup from you in your upcoming litter (Styx and Feather) if you have a male. |
It's Seamus' first birthday (Feb. 28, 2016) - He's a joy. Smart, sensitive, tireles, sweet, and adventurous - those are only some of his finer qualities. Click on the TITLE above to see a collection of photos of him growing up.

Boomer wears many hats
New blog post update on Boomer - he's doing great at herding, obedience, nose work, and is a great companion! CLICK FOR BLOG
Bandit (Bugs/Cinch) went to a great couple in Burbank who had lost their beloved McNab. He is coming along great and now learning agility.
A very nice couple from Arizona selected a puppy out of Holly and Cinch . Marcy, the wife, has an excellent blog called The McNab Pages. Here is a link where she tells the story of coming to the ranch and meeting Molly, with lots of great photos: Travels with Molly: The Homecoming

Update on Molly Mcnab
Aug. 15, 2015 - Molly is amazing! There's just not a better dog out there. She's so loving and loyal, athletic and gorgeous - everything a person could want in a dog. She's a great barn companion and runs off the coyotes so I can have our little papillon out with me when I'm doing chores. Molly is more gentle with the calves than Earl is - she's more maternal with them than aggresive - and has the energy of a thousand toddlers. She's also just a snuggly as I had hoped - she either sleeps with her head on Russ's neck or she'll curl up in my arms. We adore her.

Hi Teri, Here's an update on Finn (Bugs and Cinch litter of 2015). I get so many compliments on how friendly and sweet he is. He's been in "adult" obedience class for a couple months now because he's such a quick learner. I took him to a disc dog clinic over the weekend for fun. The trainers were so impressed with his quick athleticism and his eye on the disc. They want me to try getting into freestyle with him because he was already airborne on almost every throw, and did a backflip! Sarah A.

Finn, new update, Feb. 2016. We finally got around to testing into level 2 obedience classes. We have been cruising through Level 1 classes for several months now. Finn is an amazing dog! He is extremely intelligent, super people friendly (loves kids) and is quite handsome. We are taking the sports slow, but he's been doing agility, disc classes, tribball, and lure coursing for fun. My trainers adore him and think he is a rock star!

This puppy was donated to Cowfolks Care as part of a fundraiser for a cancer patient. Thanks to his new owner for contributing to this worthy cause.

June 15. Teri, I met Justy and took the puppy home. He is darling! He is smart, sweet, eager to please, and quick to learn. He rode in the crate well and after we arrived accompanied us on a mile long walk. I was watching to see if his stamina was up to it, and he held up fine. He pees and poops in the right place - and not in the house! The only downside is that he is so affectionate that it is dificult for me to stretch or do exercises on the floor because he loves to drape himself over my chest and neck. Update: Rusty is so smart and so good. He is almost to much to wish for. He sits on voice or hand command. He comes to us name or a whistle. He goes into the crate or the kennel without a fuss. He sleeps through the night. His learning to be patient and "wait". And he loves to follow Chase and me, but he is not afraid to explore the grounds on his own. Thank you for such a great dog! (June 21, 2015) Oct. 11, 2015 - Rusty continues to do well. He now weighs about 55 lbs. He is very sweet, affectionate and fun-loving at home. It seems he's happy all of the time (although this photo won't show that.) However, he is a bit timid in public. I've been training him a lot to "watch" so that I can keep his attention and distract him from what is "bothering" him. The rest of his training has gone well. He sits when we stop, he (mostly) walks beside me and looks at me frequently, he comes when called, he is learning to drop on command, he waits for his meal, etc.

Torrey, Mcnab out of Bugs and Cinch, is doing great! Growing
and gaining confidence daily. From Cindy in Montana. |
Feb. 2016, Update on Torrey. Torrey is doing great. I have been taking him weekly to herding lessons with sheep. His natural instincts to herd are incredible. I have a lot to learn about herding, but we are having fun. He is very good gathering the sheep, and we are teaching him to drive. He is all work when with the sheep. At some point in the future I will have him work with cattle. I do plan to trail him in herding. I think he is amazing for an 11 month old pup.
I plan to teach Torrey agility soon. Just waiting on the snow to finish melting and the ground to dry. Torrey is the smartest dog I have ever partnered with - loves to work, learns fast, and keeps me on my toes. |
Annie, an offspring of Sparky, is like our other dog, Cody. He used to sleep in the closet as well. Another thing - all of our dogs have been smart; however, I've never seen a dog as smart as Annie. She is also wonderfully fun! Great job of breeding. Thanks for getting her to us. The Updegraffs.
Bolt, a Mae and Mac male. Laurie writes: Yesterday I took him out on the trails with Lucy, and since we were going to limit our distance due to Lucy's presence, I decided to do a little off trail walking to get Bolt used to what he will face as a Search and Rescue dog. Lucy got lost and disoriented in some tall grasses. She is short, and now her hearing is almost gone and her sense of smell is not as acute especially when she gets nervous. I was waving my arms in her direction trying to get her attention, when Bolt bounded over to her, touched noses with her, and then turned and trotted back to me with Lucy following him. A little distance later I noticed Lucy was not with us when we rounded a bend. I went back and saw her nervously looking around. Once again Bolt ran over to her and got her attention and led her back to me.
This dog takes my breath away! Bolt can now reliably loose-lead walk, sit with verbal and/or visual commands, and he is learning down, stay, and how to relax and chill on his mat. He will attend his first K9 SAR training event on July 1st. |
Update: We've added a great post on the blog about his first day at K9 Search and Rescue training.

New update, Aug. 2015. My dear little puppy's cranberries have morphed into golf balls, he is now lifting his leg, and commands he followed perfectly a few weeks ago are now regarded as suggestions. Oh boy, I have a teenager on my hands. My little Boltie, as Greg and I affectionately referred to him, now has a new nickname: Monster Dog. But when it comes time for bed and he cuddles up with Mister Bunny, he still melts our hearts.
Tika
Ms. Tika says Hi!!!
We love her so much! She is doing great . . . loves her crate and our other pets. Very smart and already loyal . . . exploring and biting as puppies do. Thanks again! M. Butti
Update: Tika, aka, spoiled dog is doing GREAT! She is a wonderful dog and learning her commands fast. Just introduced her to swimming and she loves it! She is a lover and is fast becoming a very well rounded dog.

Tika Turns One
February 28 is her special day. We are so blessed - she is smart, loving, and very loyal! Agility training is going great and social training for therapy work has been a breeze - she loves everyone and is very eager to please. We love her so much!
Dominic, our handsome 4 month old boy, just passed puppy class and grows bigger by the week. He is so clever - the smartest puppy in class by far. He knows sit, down, stay, come, shake, and play dead. He will start basic obedience at 6 months. He likes the cats and is great with both girls. Loves to play soccer, loves the mountains, car rides, and loves other dogs. It's been suggested that we do herding with him, but the girls still want to do agility. For now he will have to herd the soccer ball! Best wishes, Courtney
We just heard back from a happy family who adopted another of Mae and Mac's girls. We don't have a current photo yet, but we wanted to share Gilda and Rick's message.
Hi Teri - It was so good to meet you. Lola slept for the first hour on the ride home and then we turned the crate around to face us and she rode the rest of the way with no car sickness. She slept through the night and was sitting there waiting to go out at 5:30 this morning. She is a very quick learner - after two trips she knows where to go outside. This afternoon Lola made a beeline at a squirrel on the fence and gave out a sharp bark! She tire herself out, came inside, picked up her toy and went into her crate and fell asleep. We are very proud parents! Thank you for letting us be part of your family.

From Janey and JR - Skeeter is a stout young lady at a muscled 46 lbs. She has free run of our property in MT and AZ. We adore her - she has been a blessing and a friend. We want you to know that Skeet has a special awareness and gift about JR's health. In March 2014 JR had a second heart attack. Skeet had been acting very protective and would not leave his side prior to the event. She sensed something was wrong. She is now his service dog and goes everywhere with him.
Hi Teri, Our pup, Molly, is wonderful! Totally a member of our family (animals and humans.) Smart, listens, watches to see what I want. Figured out quickly that I don't want her to bark at or chase the geese. Stands off about 10 ft. to my side when I move them. Sleeps on our bed, and has tricks - sits, comes, and dances. Janet S.

Dec. 13 - Nelly is one today! We are celebrating with a romp at the beach. She's such a great pup and we are thankful for her - and you! Sarah, Matt and the boys

Dear "Aunt" Teri, Recently Arlo took me hunting and we didn't see a single deer . . . but we sure covered some ground. I think Arlo was very pleased with my performance in the woods . . . I was full of spunk no matter how long or difficult the hike. From the pics you can also tell we have some down time at home. I am quite content to nap in Arlo's lap while he reads the paper. He put me on the scale today and I am up to 36.5 lbs. Arlo says I am just right . . . He is so easy. I hope everything is fine at the ranch with you and "Uncle" Justy . . . tell mom and dad I said "Hi!" Love, Jessie
Update on Jessie: A few days ago Jessie turned two and I had to send you some picures - we are still so much in love with her. She is my hiking partner and will go anywhere I want to go - I get into thick brush or tangles of trees or whatvever and just about the time I think, "Boy, she is gonna have a hard time getting through this stuff," I turn around and there she is right behind me. She is a winner for both of us - Nancy is constantly cooing and laughing with her . . . she is family.
Ashley writes: Stirling (out of Nellie and Cinch) is so so smart - I love coming up with challenges for him every day. He's already mastered sit, down, wave, leave it, and is working on heel and side. Potty training has been a breeze. He's super friendly and social - loves everyone but definitely prefers to be at my feet.
He's been going to the barn with me. He clearly seems to understand the concept of respect of horses from the get-go, but he's also completely unafraid, which I love. He's quite intent on the livestock, especially the burro (kind of funny). He works my cats quite beautifully and he already has a nice little outrun when he plays with the big dogs. That instinct is a thing to behold! I can't wait to put him on some sheep this spring.
He looks great - lengthening out in all ways, but still a real solid guy with nice bone. We absolutely adore him! Couldn't have been closer to what I had hoped for!

Updated photos of Stirling - Aug. 2015
Stirling has had to pick up more responsibility around here since our older Mcnab hurt his back and he certainly isn't letting me down! He's completely excelled at everything I've asked him to do. As goofy and joyful as he is in the home, he's all business when we're out there with the stock - so solid and responsive and really level-headed. Stirling is such a natural talent - he's just a joy to work with. We continue to be impressed and pleased with him in every way. Thanks again, Teri!
Stirling Update, 1-17-2016
We've had Stirling for a little over a year now and he's been such a blessing. Sending more photos. Thanks again, Teri! from Ashley and Dru.

From Kaye: Here is Tenzing, one of Cinch's offspring. when he was only a few months old. He is the "perfect" dog who swims and runs every day. He is an eager student and quick to learn - he's doing so well in his beginning agility classes. He loves all people and dogs, so he travels everywhere with me. We are just on our way to Utah for my other dog's dock diving competition and to see the international herding competition. After that we plan to spend a few weeks hiking in the state.

Hi Teri! We love our sweet puppy, Moose (Nellie & Cinch boy) - he is so fun and wonderful! Here he is 8+ weeks and doing really great. Our girls ADORE him. He sleeps in a big crate (open) and sleeps all through the night. He only cried about 4 nights after he came home. He is so smart!! He has learned how to sit, come, lay down - and he loves tiny treats, as well as things to chew on. Thanks again for all your help and communication with finding our put. We love him so much! From Ali, Justin, Asia, Eden and Sydney

I've been meaning to write y'all a quick note and tell you once again how grateful we are for our new puppy! We named her Chaia (after my favorite beverage), and she is so sweet and so crazy and so much fun! Once again, many thanks, hope you are both well, Sincerely, The Petersens
Hello Teri, We just started Nero on herding at Herding 4 Ewe based on your list of trainers. It is one of the few places that teach herding to any type of dog, but only to dogs and people they like. When I walked in with Nero the trainer seemed excited and said, "Oh! Now that is a McNab! Everyone look!" He did great on the instinct test. She thought he was great young dog with good potential. So far it's been quite fun! Kind regards, Junn |
Hi Teri - Have been meaning to send some photos of Tess (Gus and Brea girl). We are hiking 1-3 miles daily, attending puppy pre-school, socializing with lots of people and other animals. Tess is so smart! She is bonding with us, is very sweet, though still has puppy teeth and wants to explore everyone with them. She is confident, friendly, yet seems a little submissive toward other dogs, which seems to be a nice trait. Thanks for sharing Tess with us. She is just what the doctor ordered for Patrick. Michelle C., Feb. 2015.
Update: We have taken Tess through a couple of obedience classes, and are about to enroll her in an advanced obedience class. She still wakes me up every morning at 5:00 by chewing on my ear, and we have continued our morning and evening walks of about 45 minutes each. I also came across a wonderful product called a "Dogger Jogger" which allows her to go for short runs (a mile or so) on flat ground alongside my bike. However, as per your advice, I will postpone having her go mountain biking with me until she is at least 1 1/2 years old, so that she will develop healthy joints. But now that Tessie knows what a mountain bike is she gives me a dirty look each time I load it up, because she knows I am going to go without her. She is a GREAT dog, and has been a wonderful addition to our family! (July 2015)
Hi Teri, Ele is the smartest dog I have ever known! As you know, I didn't train her with punishment - heck, I never even yell at her. She wants only to work with me and never tires of the tasks at hand. When I tell her to get in the tractor or the dump truck or the Jeep, she clearly knows the difference. When we go in the dually she goes over to it and waits for me to give her the hand signal to jump in. Anywhere but the ranch she knows to stay exactly at the dually. She follows orders around all types of gun fire and always looks to me for the next task. We are together day and night, and both of us hurt if we aren't together. What a super special dog she is! She would do really well at those obstacle courses I see on TV. This is only a small part of what Ele is all about. Thank you so much for bringing Ele to me and Brenda! Also, if anyone wants to come and see how wonderful this little cow dog is up in N. Nevada, just give me a call.
Bye for now and again, thank you so much. Trona and Brenda H.

Hi Teri, We bought a puppy from a lady in Nipomo - her dog was a kelpie bred to your Cinch. We named him Dakota. At 9 months old, he won his first trial on sheep in the puppy class! Thought you might like to see the video. We love Dakota as a family dog and working dog. We raise goats and he is a big help. He is my youngest daughter's best friend. He has a great eye that works livestock easily.

Hi Teri, Hope all is well. We wanted to give you an update on Moog, your McNablett puppy from Gus and Brea. We love him! He is enrolled in puppy agility, we're working on basic obedience commands, and he loves to go to playtime and doggy daycare. He knows no stranger, although he definitely prefers his family. We are delighted with his friendly and loving personality, intelligence, and his zest for new experiences. He comes with me to meetings, hangs out with us on the patio when we go to tea, and has proven to be a good shop dog. Moog is a wonderful addition to our lives. Thank you!
Updated photo of Moog, Aug. 2015.
Moog - May, 2016
I took a picture this morning of Moog playing with his farm toy that you gave him. It remains a favorite of his. He remains the apple of our eyes! Thank you!
